The Nottingham Core Housing Market Area (HMA)

Although Erewash is located in Derbyshire, the Borough is a part of the Nottingham Core Housing Market Area. This is because of regional policy mechanisms which are based upon established travel to work patterns (TTWP) and relationships involved to access other related activities (shopping, leisure etc). Indeed most of Erewash’s population resides to the East of the Borough in close proximity to Nottingham.
The Nottingham Core Housing Market Area covers the administrative areas of :

• Broxtowe Borough Council
• Erewash Borough Council
• Gedling Borough Council
• Nottingham City Council
• Rushcliffe Borough Council
• Plus the Hucknall wards of Ashfield District Council
 

Greater Nottingham Growth Point - Background

In 2005 the Three Cities of Leicester, Derby and Nottingham and their surrounding Counties were jointly recognised as a new Growth Point by the Government (known as the 6C's). Growth Point is designed to provide support to local communities to support large scale and sustainable growth, including new housing. Growth Point status is built on four principles:

• Early delivery of housing as part of growth plans
• Supporting local partners to achieve sustainable growth
• Working with local partners to ensure that infrastructure and service provision keep pace with growth
• Ensuring effective delivery

Governance

A new governance structure has been established to guide growth proposals in Greater Nottingham with representation from all of the councils below plus Nottinghamshire County Council and Derbyshire County Council. The Greater Nottingham Joint Planning Advisory Board, Chaired by Broxtowe Borough Council meets every two months and provides strategic guidance on policy alignment and the Growth Point Programme of Development.
