Erewash's Sustainable Community Strategy

The Government’s Sustainable Development Strategy 2005, followed by the Sustainable Communities Act 2007 and White Paper ‘Strong and Prosperous Communities’, required Local Authorities and their partners to re-shape their existing community plans into strategies that address their area’s longer term needs.

The Government describes a Sustainable Community as:

"… places where people want to live and work now, and in the future. They meet the diverse needs of existing and future residents, are sensitive to their environment and contribute to a high quality of life. They are safe and inclusive, well planned, built and run, and offer equality of opportunity and good services for all. DCLG Definition of Sustainable Communities"
