School Visits PDF Print E-mail

We are committed to providing resources and activities tailored to the National Curriculum, especially at Key Stages 1 and 2. As a result, we aim to fit the following areas into our activities and loan box material:

  • Chronological understanding
  • Knowledge and understanding of events, people and changes in the past
  • Historical interpretation
  • Historical enquiry
  • Organisation and communication

We can provide sessions for single class groups with an adult to child ratio of 1:6.

After a brief introduction, you will be asked to divide your party into two groups, one group will do a museum-led session and one will do a teacher-led session, the groups will then swap over.

The activities encourage children to engage with objects in a variety of ways, including detailed observation, use, drawing, discussion and comparison with modern equivalents.

We also offer loan boxes which can be borrowed by schools or local groups. These boxes contain real historical objects, replica objects for activities that are more lively, photos and picture resources and ideas for activities around the subject focus.

We are now offering a brand new service called facilitated loans which involves a member of museum staff visiting your school to work with the children around your chosen loan box or subject.

All school visits and education sessions must be booked in advance. You can download a school visits form below. If you require further information please contact Erewash Museum on 0115 9071141.
