Erewash Borough Council employees are donating their unwanted Christmas gifts to help those less fortunate – and local residents have the chance to add to the collection.
The Council’s Housing Options team has organised the collection to help them in their work with people and families in the borough who find themselves homeless.
Any unwanted toiletries, socks, bedding, towels, t-towels, crockery or other household items are all gratefully received by people when they are helped to find new accommodation after approaching the Council, or local supported accommodation projects, for help.
In addition, the Council would also welcome donations of tinned goods or other long-life food to help a locally-run weekly soup kitchen.
Councillor Carol Hart, Erewash Borough Council’s Deputy Leader and Lead Member for Community Engagement, said:
“At this time, when some of us may have gifts that we don’t really need, it is nice to be able to help those less fortunate than ourselves. There are families and individuals in this borough who, for many different reasons, find themselves needing help to find a home.
“When we are able to find them somewhere to stay and live, these donated items will be very gratefully received by them to help them on their way.
“Local residents have always supported our charity appeals and if any want to help with this one, then we would welcome their donations.”
Items can be dropped in for the Housing Options Team at Ilkeston Town Hall reception or at Long Eaton reception.
