Statement from Sue Blakeley, Director for Regeneration & Community at Erewash Borough Council:
“We were informed late yesterday afternoon (Tuesday 16th February) that Tesco had withdrawn their application to build a new foodstore in Sandiacre and this item will now no longer be on the agenda at our Planning Committee meeting this evening. (Wednesday 17th)
“Erewash Borough Council officers had reviewed the application objectively and had serious planning concerns about this application and had recommended that the application be refused on numerous grounds - which were all outlined in full in our report to councillors. Both County Councils and the local parish council were among those who had also objected to the proposed development.
“Tesco do own the land in question and, therefore, we would anticipate that they will come back with further plans at some point. However, any future application would have to address the issues already raised – in particular, the highways and traffic concerns.”
