Your Erewash, your future – have your say!

E-mail Print PDF

Erewash residents are being urged to have their say on future developments in the borough at a series of events this month.

An ‘overview’ of proposals for all development in Erewash over the next 15 years – which set out where new homes, jobs, shops, roads and community facilities could be provided – are featured in an important draft document.

Along with neighbouring authorities, Erewash Borough Council faces development challenges to ensure a successful future and to meet Government targets – including the key priority of identifying sites within the borough for new housing developments.

The Council has been told it should provide a minimum of 7,200 new homes in Erewash by 2026 and, while some of these have already been built, residents can play an active role in planning the borough’s future development.

Key issues like employment, boosting communities by strengthening local facilities, improving and helping regenerate the town centres, transport networks and managing the borough’s greenbelt land are all part of the document – called the Erewash Core Strategy.

A programme of consultation events has been organised, where residents can find out more and have the opportunity of giving their views on all the issues. The information roadshow has already visited various parts of the borough and will continue to do so until the end of March.

Erewash Borough Council has been ‘partnered’ with neighbouring councils Broxtowe, Gedling, Nottingham City and Rushcliffe to form the Greater Nottingham area and all have been working together to drive forward and align their Core Strategies – with the aim of tackling joint and cross boundary issues.

Councillor Geoff Smith, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Regeneration and Planning, said:

“Our Core Strategy is vital to the future of Erewash and will lay the ground rules for development across the borough right through to 2026. I would urge everyone who lives in this borough to find out more and make their views known either by visiting one of the consultation events, via our on-line website or at our Town Halls.

“The Strategy is a comprehensive overview and I cannot stress enough just how important a document this is. Residents can have a real effect on what will happen and help us shape the future of Erewash.”

The consultation roadshows will be at:
  • Little Eaton OAP Hall – Monday 15th March, 10am-5pm
  • Ilkeston Market Place – Thursday 18th March, 10am-3pm
  • Long Eaton Market Place – Saturday 20th March, 10am-3pm
  • Ilkeston Library – Wednesday 24th March, 9am-5pm
  • Long Eaton Market Place – Friday 26th March, 10am-3pm
  • Sandiacre Library - Saturday 27th March, 9.30am-1pm
  • Long Eaton Library – Wednesday 31st March, 9am-7pm

The current consultation will end on 12th April this year and the Core Strategy document, information leaflets and questionnaires on the proposals are available from the receptions in both Town Halls, all Erewash libraries (plus those at Allestree, Duffield and Spondon) and Shopmobility Centres at Ilkeston and Long Eaton.
