School children from Hallam Fields Junior School and Cotmanhay Junior School have taken part this week in the Borough Blitz campaign.
Children from Hallam Fields Junior School litter picked the open space at the rear of the school together with local PC Louise Stevenson who came along to lend a hand.
Junior Rangers from Cotmanhay Junior School joined forces with the Pride in Erewash team accompanied by their teacher and Neighbourhood Warden Louise Venables to litter pick the Beauvale Drive recreation area.
The Erewash Borough Blitz campaign has been a great success this week demonstrating by working together, a real difference can be made to local neighbourhoods.
Councillor Barbara Harrison, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for the Environment said:
“This year’s Borough Blitz campaign is proving to be a huge success and it is very encouraging to see local schools making a real difference in the community. I would like to thank the children at the Hallam Fields and Cotmanhay Junior Schools for taking part and they should be proud of their achievement.”
The four-week blitz is the flagship project of the Council’s Pride in Erewash Campaign and will run from Monday 1st March through to Sunday 28th March.
As well as the community clean-ups, a Groundwork Derby and Derbyshire ‘roving’ clean-up team will target known litter hotspots for four days a week throughout the Blitz, while Police Community Support Officers will also be pitching in to help.
And the Probation Service continues its support for the initiative by bringing together willing teams to do their bit for the community by helping with graffiti removal and cleaning up known problem sites.
