Have your say on Election Day!

Erewash Borough Council is urging residents to ensure they have a vote in next month’s General Election.

The Council has issued a clear message to would-be voters – there are just days left to make sure you are on the voting register or to apply for a postal vote, so take action now!

Anyone who wants a postal vote for the 6th May Election must apply to the Borough Council by 5pm on Tuesday 20th April, while it is the same deadline for anyone who wants to make sure they are on the Electoral Register. All residents aged 18 and over must be on the register to have the right to vote.

Posters reminding people to ensure they have a vote have been sent out to public places across Erewash as the Council works to get the message out to everyone.

With the deadline approaching, anyone who wants to apply for a postal vote or to ensure they are on the voting register can call the Council’s election hotline on 0115 907 1190 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Hayley Brailsford, Erewash Borough Council’s Electoral Services Manager, says:

“Postal voting is becoming an increasingly popular option for people who find it difficult to get along to a polling station – and it is vital, of course, for those who may be on holiday on Election Day. We want to encourage as many people as possible to have their say in next month’s General Election, so please apply immediately or register if you have recently moved house or will be 18 before 6th May.”

Residents also have the option of voting by proxy, which means appointing someone to vote on their behalf. However, electors have to give a reason why they cannot attend the polling station in person - for example they are disabled, have to work or are on holiday.
