Behind-the-scenes work to ensure General Election day goes smoothly in Erewash is in full swing, with the Erewash Borough Council elections team working hard to ensure the run-up to 6th May and Polling Day itself all goes to plan.
Electoral Services Manager Hayley Brailsford, Electoral Services Officer Jayne Fennec and other staff have been putting procedures in place in readiness for a General Election, but when the Prime Minister called it for 6th May, the team immediately moved into top gear.
The Returning Officer (Erewash Borough Council Chief Executive Jeremy Jaroszek) is responsible for organising the whole election process in Erewash for the election of an Erewash MP – from managing the voters register, sending out the poll cards, setting up and manning the polling stations, training elections staff and, finally, organising the count and declaring the result.
There are 51 polling stations in Erewash and local residents and Council employees are all part of the 128-strong team that is already signed up and ready to work on Election Day.
The 6th May team is made up of 77 poll clerks, 51 presiding officers and 5 polling station inspectors. The count will be held immediately after voting closes at 10pm, when 54 counting assistants plus 9 supervisors and 20 other postal and count staff will work at West Park Leisure Centre in Long Eaton until the early hours.
