Working together to help others

Wheelchair users in Erewash who find themselves in need of temporary accommodation can now be helped thanks to a specially-developed flat in Long Eaton.

The ground floor flat has been adapted for wheelchairs thanks to a partnership project between Erewash Borough Council and Tuntum Housing Association.

Tuntum owns the accommodation and was keen to work with the Council to adapt the one-bedroomed flat into a suitable living space and layout for those who need to use their wheelchairs indoors.

The work has now been completed and the flat is leased to the Council to use as temporary accommodation.

Councillor Carol Hart, Erewash Borough Council’s Deputy Leader and Lead Member for Community Engagement, said:

“We are delighted to be able to provide suitable accommodation for people, whatever their disabilities, until such time as they can move into a permanent home. Our housing and housing options teams work hard to help all those who find themselves in difficult circumstances and in need of help to find home.

“By working with Tuntum we have now helped provide this properly adapted flat for those wheelchair-users who may need a temporary base until they find permanent accommodation.

“This is another example of the Council working in partnership for the benefit of the community.”

Steve White, Director of Operations at Tuntum, has also welcomed the link-up with Erewash Borough Council to provide ‘a useful and valued facility’.
