Three training sessions are to be held next month for all those who have signed up for Erewash Borough Council’s Novice Triathlon 2010 – and for anyone who would still like to enter the popular summer race.
The ‘Try a Tri’ sessions will offer guidance on all aspects involved in preparing for and taking part in the annual event, which this year takes place on 15th August, and competitors are urged to register for the sessions as soon as possible.
The training will be held at West Park Leisure Centre in Long Eaton on 5th June, 26th June and 10th July between 4.30pm-7pm and will be delivered by Erewash Borough Council in partnership with the British Triathlon Federation and Absolute Triathlon.
Each session costs just £6 or a special rate of £15 is available for anyone wanting to attend all three.
The 2½-hour sessions have been broken down to cover all three disciplines which make up the triathlon to include the following:
· Saturday 5th June – Session 1 will give a brief overview of triathlon, what to wear, a practical swimming technique session, practice on transitions from swim to bike and guidance on training for the event.
· Saturday 26th June – Session 2 will include guidance on running, a practical run session with drills and technique, advice on what makes a good training shoe and a swim technique session.
· Saturday 10th July – Session 3 will be bike-focussed and will include cycling the route of the Erewash Triathlon. There will also be advice on bike set-up and maintenance, racing and race preparation and transition training.
Anyone booking for the sessions will need to take clothing that is suitable for running and biking, trainers, helmet, their bike, swim kit and a light snack and water bottle.
This is the first year that specific sessions have been offered for participants and it is hoped that it will help improve their confidence for race day, get them involved in local clubs and ensure that they are fully prepared for the race.
Rob Bishop, Regional Programme Manager for the British Triathlon Federation East Midlands, says:
"The Erewash Novice Triathlon is now in its third successful year and the 2010 entries have increased again to 400, while there will also be the Junior Aquathlon and free Family Fun run taking place the day before on 14th August. The events are perfect for beginners with a fun atmosphere and plenty going on for all the family."
His comments have been backed by Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council's Lead Member for Culture and Leisure who says:
"Our annual Triathlon event continues to go from strength to strength and has become one of the most popular milestones in our sporting calendar. It really is a colourful sporting weekend with something for children and adults of all ages - a real family occasion for both those taking part and those turning out to cheer on the triathletes, the junior swimmers or those taking part in the Fun Run.
"We are delighted now to be able to offer this training and I would urge all those taking part to take advantage, the sessions will be informative and fun. Get yourself booked for the training and enjoy the whole build up to the event."
A proof of entry for the Erewash Triathlon is needed to book the sessions and booking forms are available from the website www.erewashtriathlon.com or they can be requested by emailing
