Ilkeston School students are finding out just what life is like when using a wheelchair this week – by joining forces with Erewash Borough Council’s Shopmobility Scheme.
The Sixth Formers will all use manual wheelchairs and go out and about into Ilkeston town centre shops as part of a ‘real life’ project that will give them an insight into the difficulties faced by people with disabilities.
Around 22 students will take part in the project during the week, when they will go out in pairs to do their ‘shopping’ around town.
All the pupils will also listen to a talk by Ilkeston Shopmobility Co-ordinator Jenni Walker about the importance of the Shopmobility Scheme and the lifeline it offers to people with disabilities.
This is a great media opportunity to report on a pace-setting project for local Sixth Formers.
