Erewash Borough Council will be supporting the England football team in the World Cup being held in South Africa and will fly the St George’s Cross from the Town Halls in both Ilkeston and Long Eaton from 9am Friday 11th June in advance of the opening ceremony.
The Council would encourage local communities of all backgrounds to come together and give their support to our national team as they endeavour to win the World Cup. The St George’s Cross is an important symbol of the nation’s identity and the Council is proud to fly the flag in support of the England football team.
Erewash is one of the first council’s in England to show their support for the national football team by flying the St George’s Cross.
Councillor Christopher Corbett, Leader of the Council, says:
“We are delighted to be able to support the England football team by flying the St George’s Cross from both Ilkeston and Long Eaton Town Halls. Together with the local community we wish the England players and staff a successful World Cup tournament and would encourage your support of the national team.”
