The Mayor of Erewash, Councillor Robert Parkinson, presented the Badge of Office to Ilkeston Air Training Squadron cadet, Sgt Lauren Ratcliffe, during his visit to the cadets earlier this month.
Lauren is one of four young Mayor’s Cadets who will support the Mayor on his official visits and duties this year. The others are Cadet Sgt Grace Cousins, of 2195 Long Eaton Air Training Squadron; Able Cadet Alexander Brown of Long Eaton Sea Cadets and Sgt Bethany Liddington of Long Eaton Detachment Army Cadet Force.
During his visit to formally ‘appoint’ Lauren, Councillor Parkinson also presented various training awards to other members of the 348 Ilkeston Air Training Squadron.
The Squadron is based at Albert Street in Ilkeston and provides a wide range of activities for 13-18 year-olds – including flying, gliding, sports and other training activities which often account for GCSE-equivalent qualifications.
Following the visit, Councillor Parkinson said:
“It was a delight to visit the Ilkeston air cadets and meet all those who are involved in the group. It is such a valuable organisation to have in the local community, offering positive activities for young people to get involved with.
“They offer fantastic opportunities for young people, giving them exciting and different activities.
The Ilkeston Air Training Squadron always welcomes new members and anyone wanting more details should contact Commanding Officer Ralph Bateman on 07973 309656.
