We’re Dancing in the Street!

E-mail Print PDF

The highly-popular Street Dance craze is now strutting its stuff in Erewash . . . and young people in both Long Eaton and Ilkeston have a chance to join weekly sessions led by expert urban dancers.

The exciting Street Dance classes mean 11-16-year-olds in both towns are able to try out cutting-edge Street, Urban, Break and Hip Hop styles.

Erewash Borough Council has linked up with Derbyshire Police, Erewash Community Safety Partnership and Derbyshire County Council Youth Service to provide the free sessions and is now urging youngsters to get ‘street’ wise and join in the fun!

Classes run in Long Eaton every Wednesday evening from 6pm-7.30pm at Long Eaton Youth Centre on Derby Road. The Ilkeston classes are held every Thursday 6pm–7.30pm at the Methodist Church, Nottingham Road.

Both sessions are mixed classes for boys and girls and are run by a friendly and qualified professional dancer who has been taught by a member of Britain’s Got Talent street dance finalists Flawless.
Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough council’s Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, says:

"Street dance is a great way for youngsters to keep fit, be creative and have fun with their friends – and it’s also a brilliant way to make new friends as well.

“I am delighted that we are able, with our partners, to offer these classes – completely free – to young people in our borough. Street Dance incorporates many styles and this is a fabulous opportunity to get involved. The classes are ongoing throughout the summer, so go along and join the fun!”

Comfortable clothes and shoes should be worn when attending the sessions. Anyone wanting more information can contact Lisa Nayler on 0845 907 224 ext 3582 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
