Pub and club licence holders in Ilkeston will this week attend the launch of a new all-in-one style licensing information guide to help them run their businesses safely.

The pioneering initiative, led by Erewash Community Safety Partnership through the Violence, Alcohol harm and Licensing (VAL) Group, has seen a wide range of organisations join forces to put together the support folder – which includes safety advice, key contact details, information on procedures like risk assessments and fire inspections as well as comprehensive details of licensing laws and regulations.

Licence holders will be collecting their support folders and will hear a presentation on the importance and purpose of the project at Ilkeston Town Hall on Friday 16th July.

Erewash Community Safety Partnership has worked alongside Erewash Borough Council’s licensing team and members of the VAL group – the Violence, Alcohol Harm and Licensing Group which is made up of representatives of all the key players, including the Police, Fire Service, Derbyshire County Council and the local Primary Care Trust.

Councillor Jennifer Hulls, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Personnel and Legal Services, said:

“We are very proud to be launching this information guide which will include everything a licence holder needs to know to run their business safely.

“The VAL group will always take appropriate enforcement action when required, but prevention is also a key aspect of our work.  This project is one way that we achieve this - by ensuring that we provide advice and support, hopefully removing the need for enforcement activity at a later date.

“It is a project that has the backing of all the key partners here in Erewash and is another superb initiative in the on-going campaign to support the pubs and clubs in our borough and ensure high levels of public safety for which Erewash is well known.”

The folder has been developed in conjunction with Chris Taylor, of Taylor Hall Associates, and the licence holders will be able to work with the VAL Group and Chris to add regular updates on any changes to licensing regulations.

The folder was launched to licence holders in Long Eaton last week.
