Cold callers alert

E-mail Print PDF

Erewash Borough Council has issued a warning to residents to beware of cold callers who are door knocking in the area to sell loft insulation.

The warning comes after a report of one Long Eaton resident being told incorrect information by one doorstep seller, who wrongly claimed that the Government had just increased the level of recommended loft insulation to 14-16inches.

Now the Council wants to let residents know that the current depth recommended is 270mm which equates to 10.5/11 inches and has been for the last 3 years. Home owners do not have to top up loft insulation or install it – unless they have a new roof, which would be covered by building regulations.

Councillor Barbara Harrison, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for the Environment, says:

“It is important that anyone considering buying or having quotes from doorstep sellers should confirm their identity and check the information they are giving.

“When we heard that incorrect information had been given to at least one resident in Long Eaton, we felt it important to issue an immediate warning.”

Erewash Borough Council has its own Home Energy Efficiency Officer who works to help residents reduce energy use – with loft insulation one area which can save on heat loss from properties.
