Erewash Borough Council’s Neighbourhood Wardens will now have some pedal power to do their important day-to-day work when patrolling Long Eaton and Ilkeston town centres.
It is the first time the Council has provided the wardens with bikes and they will be used depending on what duties they have planned for the day – while foot patrols will still also be a key part of the job.
Councillor Chris Corbett, Leader of Erewash Borough Council, says:
“It is great news that our town centre wardens will now have bikes. They play a vital role in keeping our town centres safe for residents and visitors alike and by providing them with bikes we can ensure they can get to where they are needed – when necessary – faster.
“It is important our wardens are visible and they will continue to patrol on foot, but our wardens keep an eye on all community safety issues, including litter and graffiti, and the bikes will enable them to get out and about in and around the two shopping centres to help sort these issues.”
Town Centre Wardens Andrew Savage and Rachel Tucker will collect their new bikes from Cyclelife in Long Eaton this Friday at 11am.
Neighbourhood Wardens provide an important service to the community and are a driving force in the Council’s campaign to make Erewash a safer, cleaner and greener borough.
