Dazzling displays, blossoming baskets and stunning street scenes – all part of a flower-filled ‘finals day’ when judges visited the short-listed entrants in this year’s Erewash in Bloom competition.
A wide range of categories make up the awards as gardening fans of all ages and abilities compete to be crowned an Erewash in Bloom champion.
A team of judges visited the gardens and displays of the finalists earlier this month to decide the winners of awards, which include best small gardens and hanging baskets through to best communal area and tallest sunflower.
And this year saw a new Nominate your Neighbour award introduced, giving people a chance to put forward residents in their street that put on a blooming good show. There is also a new ‘Best of the Best’ award which will be presented to an overall winner from the finalists.
This year’s Erewash in Bloom has a new sponsor - the Erewash Valley Branch of the Oddfellows Friendly Society - and the winners will be announced at a glittering award ceremony at Morley Hayes on Friday 1st October.
Councillor Chris Corbett, Leader of Erewash Borough Council, says:
“Erewash in Bloom just goes from strength to strength and once again we had an excellent response to the competition from across the whole borough.
“Residents, schoolchildren, pubs and local companies – they have all put so much effort into their displays this summer and really showed their Pride in Erewash. I congratulate all the entrants and all those involved in organising this popular event. I know that the judges had a very difficult task as the standards were once again very, very high.”
