Erewash Borough Council has unveiled money-saving new prices for its top class swimming and gym facilities thanks to a review of its fees charges.
The new competitive rates take effect from Sunday 5th September and are aimed at encouraging even more local residents to take the plunge and boost their health and fitness levels at the Council’s four Leisure Centres.
Swimming, Leisure Card charges and the gym membership schemes have been reviewed and the new rates have seen prices cut by up to 50% – with the Council taking the rates back to 2008 prices.
It means the popular Leisure Card now costs just £5 for adults – down from £10 – while it is £2.50 for juniors, cut by half again from the previous £5 rate.
Erewash Borough Council agreed earlier this year to continue the free swimming scheme for the under-16s and the over-60s until 4th September – despite Government funding being withdrawn for the initiative.
With the free swim scheme coming to an end, the Council was keen to get more competitive rates in place immediately and it will mean that juniors and the over-60s will be able to swim for just £1.50 if they purchase a Leisure Card, with some Cards free to people who qualify for specific means-tested benefits.
The basic Gym, Swim and Sauna package has also been reviewed and upgraded to include all workout sessions free of charge at the Council’s four centres – West Park Leisure Centre, Long Eaton; Sandiacre Friesland Sports Centre; Rutland Sports Park, Ilkeston and Victoria Park Leisure Centre, Ilkeston.
Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, says:
“Our Leisure Centres are much valued by local communities and we felt the time was right to review our charges to ensure the top class facilities we offer are available at competitive prices for everyone.
“Encouraging local residents, groups and schools to adopt a more healthy and active lifestyle is one of Erewash Borough Council’s top priorities and we are delighted to be able to announce these new, competitive rates. I am sure local people will welcome the news, especially at a time when everyone has to budget more carefully. We hope to see even more people using our facilities, which offer fitness and fun for families and residents of all ages.”
Full details of all the new charges can be found on the Erewash Borough Council website, www.erewash.gov.uk, or by contacting the Leisure Centres.
