Residents across Erewash will be urged to ensure they register their right to vote through the thousands of reminder forms that are being delivered across the borough this week.
Just over 50,000 forms were sent out to every household in the borough at the beginning of August, asking residents to check their details and make any necessary changes as part of the annual canvass of electors.
So far 58 per cent have been returned – which means that around 21,000 households will receive reminders and must return the form or register their vote as soon as possible.
Erewash Borough Council has again ensured that residents who have no changes to make have a full range of options when it comes to registering their vote – by phone, text, internet or freepost.
Those households that need to add or remove names from the electoral register are required to make the necessary amendments to the form, which must be signed and returned to the Council in the freepost envelope provided.
Councillor Carol Hart, Erewash Borough Council’s Deputy Leader and Lead Member for Community Services, said:
“We have to publish a new register of electors every year, so it is very important that people take a few moments to complete their form and get it back to us without delay. I'd like to thank the thousands of householders who have already responded, but we are now urging the remaining residents to register as soon as possible to protect their right to vote.”
