Borough and Parish Elections
National Referendum
5th May 2011

The borough has a geographical area of 42.2 square miles (or 26,955 acres) and has a total electorate of 84,819 living in 50,288 households. The main towns are Ilkeston, with an electorate of 28,434, and Long Eaton, with an electorate of 28,176.

The remaining smaller urban and rural areas have a total electorate of 28,209. These areas are Breadsall, Morley, Breaston, Dale Abbey, Risley, Hopwell, Stanton-by-Dale, Draycott, Little Eaton, Ockbrook and Borrowash, Sandiacre, Stanley, Stanley Common and West Hallam.

2011 Borough Council Elections Results

Erewash Borough Council’s political balance is now:

  • Conservatives 26
  • Labour 25

There were 51 seats contested in 22 wards.

The overall turnout at the Erewash Borough Council election was 43.2%

2011 Parish Elections

Parish elections are taking place for the following Parish Councils:

  • Breaston (12 seats)
  • Draycott (11 seats)
  • Stanton-by-Dale (6 seats)
  • West Hallam (9 seats).

There are three wards for Ockbrook and Borrowash Parish Council

  1. Borrowash East (4 seats)
  2. Borrowash West (4 seats)
  3. Ockbrook parish (3 seats).

There are two wards for Sandiacre

  1. Sandiacre North (7 seats)
  2. Sandiacre South (7 seats)

The parishes of Breadsall, Dale Abbey, Little Eaton, Morley, Risley, Sawley and Stanley
and Stanley Common are all uncontested.

National Referendum on the voting system for United Kingdom Parliamentary Elections

The total number of ballot papers counted was 36,240

  • The number of votes cast in favour of YES was: 9255
  • The number of votes cast in favour of NO was: 26,863
