EREWASH YOUTH FORUM
Erewash Borough Council launched its first ever Youth Forum in March 2007.
The main aims of the Forum are to:
- to listen and speak for the young people of Erewash
- to support students PHSE
- to promote equality for young people
- to help young people be more involved in decisions that affect their lives
- to advance young peoples participation in society and civic life
- to stimulate and improve communication between Erewash Borough Council, young people and other organisations
Schools who are currently involved in the Youth Forum are:
- Wilsthorpe Business and Enterprise Centre
- The Long Eaton School
- Ilkeston Specialist Arts College
- Bennerley Business and Enterprise College
- Sandiacre Friesland School
- Kirk Hallam Community Technology College
- St John Houghton Catholic School
- Brackenfield School and Specialist College of Cognition and Learning
- Bennerley Fields School
Members of the Erewash Youth Forum have been busy this year working on community projects to benefit their school and surrounding community. In July 2009 the group carried out a prioritisation exercise to establish what areas they wanted to work on in the future. The top 3 priorities are:
- Young people and alcohol
- Teenage pregnancy
- Staying safe
These priorities will be used as topics for future meetings.
